Highland Youth Pastors and Youth Workers!
The 30 hour famine is set and ready to take place in Highland on March 20th and 21st at the Highland Food Pantry! We would love for YOUR youth group to be a part of this event! Students around Highland will be teaming up with each other and World Vision to fight world hunger by fasting for 30 hours.
What’s going on?
Students (junior high and high school students) will stop eating at 1:00 pm (on their own) on Friday March 20th. They will then gather at the Highland Food Pantry at 6:00 pm to continue the fast together until we break the fast on Saturday at 7:00 pm (we will break the fast with a pizza party). They will need to bring sleeping bags, an extra set of clothes (for service projects around Highland), and any drinks that they want for the fast (absolutely no pop, soda, caffeinated beverages, energy drinks, tea, or milk. Gatorade, water, and juice are all perfectly alright).
How can you participate?
We need a rough estimate on how many students will be doing the fast. Therefore, if you are planning for your group to attend this event, please send me a rough estimate of your numbers (how many students are coming). I have also included a parent letter and consent form for your students (e-mail me for this). This should answer other questions and give parents an understanding of what is happening. Students will need to bring that consent form with them at 6:00 pm on March 20th.
What about other activities?
If students have any events going on Saturday they may leave the famine but are required to have a paper signed by a parent or guardian stating when they are to leave and the time they will return back to the famine (for example, sports teams that have a practice). We do not encourage students to leave but understand if there is an event going on. Students are asked to continue the fast if they leave the event. Please understand and communicate how important it is for students to be involved for the entire famine!
